Lake Crescent is one of my favorite places in Olympic National Park for elopements because you can experience towering old-growth forests, crystal-clear water, mountain views, and peaceful beaches all within a few minutes of each other. Over the years I’ve photographed everything from private “just us” ceremonies to celebrations with dozens of guests here, and every location has its own personality.

If you’re wondering where to exchange your vows, here are my five favorite ceremony locations around Lake Crescent, and which couples they’re perfect for.

1. Bovee’s Meadow

Best for: Larger weddings, family gatherings, picnics, and easy accessibility

This is my go-to recommendation whenever couples are inviting a larger group. Bovee’s Meadow has one of the largest open ceremony areas around Lake Crescent while still feeling surrounded by nature. After the ceremony, it’s only a short walk to the shoreline where you can enjoy gorgeous lake views and portraits.

One of my favorite things about this location is that it naturally lends itself to slowing down. If you’re planning a celebratory picnic, champagne toast, or simply want room for everyone to spread out after your ceremony, this is hard to beat!

Things to know:

• Accommodates groups up to about 50 guests
• Plenty of room for chairs or standing ceremonies
• Great option for picnics afterward
• Can become busy on warm summer afternoons, especially weekends
• Easy walking and accessible facilities nearby

2. Lake Crescent Lodge Area

Best for: Couples wanting lots of variety without driving

The area around Lake Crescent Lodge offers an incredible amount of scenery packed into a very small area. Within a few minutes you can photograph in old-growth forest, along the lakeshore, on historic lodge grounds, and at several beautiful beach locations.

This is one of my favorite areas for couples because it gives us so much flexibility throughout the day. If one spot has visitors, it’s easy to walk to another equally beautiful location nearby.

For couples bringing guests, there are several ceremony options in this area depending on group size and the experience you’re hoping for.

Things to know:

• Multiple ceremony locations within walking distance
• Beautiful forest, beach, and lake scenery
• Excellent for sunrise and sunset portraits
• Great option for larger groups with the right ceremony location
• Easy access to lodging and amenities nearby

3. Storm King Dock & Lawn

Best for: Medium-sized guest lists and classic Lake Crescent views

If you’ve dreamed about saying your vows beside the water with a charming dock and mountain backdrop, this is one of my favorite locations.

The lawn beside the dock creates a natural ceremony space while the dock itself is perfect for portraits afterward. In spring, the surrounding wildflowers add another layer of beauty, and the nearby historic Storm King Ranger Station gives the whole area a timeless Olympic National Park feel.

Things to know:

• Ideal for groups up to 25 guests
• Beautiful dock for portraits
• Historic ranger station nearby
• Gorgeous spring wildflowers
• Easy access with minimal walking

4. Devil’s Punchbowl

Best for: Adventurous couples eloping without guests

If your dream is an intimate ceremony with just the two of you, Devil’s Punchbowl is one of the most unique locations around Lake Crescent.

A mostly-paved walk leads to brilliantly blue water tucked against dramatic cliffs. While it’s a popular swimming spot during summer, visiting at sunrise or on weekdays often provides a much quieter experience.

Because space is limited, I generally recommend this location for ceremonies with just the couple (or perhaps one or two additional people), then heading elsewhere afterward for more portraits.

Things to know:

• Best for very small ceremonies
• 1.2 miles mostly-paved walk from the parking area
• Incredible turquoise water
• Busy during hot summer afternoons
• Sunrise offers the best chance for privacy

 

5. East Beach Road

Best for: Couples wanting privacy and flexibility

If you’re looking for something that feels a little more tucked away, East Beach Road is one of my favorite hidden gems.

Rather than one designated ceremony site, this stretch of road has several small pullouts leading to quiet shoreline access. Many of these little beaches feel surprisingly secluded, especially outside of peak summer weekends.

Because there are several options along the road, I often choose the exact location based on lighting, crowds, and the size of your group on the day of your elopement.

Things to know:

• Best for smaller guest counts
• Multiple beach access points
• More privacy than many other Lake Crescent locations
• Flexible depending on lighting and crowds
• Wonderful for relaxed portraits after the ceremony

Summer weekends can become extremely busy, while sunrise, weekdays, and the shoulder seasons often feel completely different.
