Hiking Trails in Sedona, Arizona

This past spring I spent some time visiting my family down in Arizona, which included a fabulous day trip with my sister up to Sedona. It is always interesting to think about the fact that I grew up in the desert now that I have such a profound love of snow. Alas, I did and it always feels good to go home. Life in the desert is simply different than up in the Pacific Northwest and the scenery is so beautiful in its own way. It had been years since I’d been up to Sedona and it was just as spectacular as I remember. A mere two hours of driving from Phoenix gets you to views of the most stunning rock red rock features. We did a short hike up to Soldier Pass, admiring the views and the myriad of cactus species along the way. We saw sights like the Seven Sacred Pools and the giant hole in the ground called Devil’s Sinkhole. The weather was pleasantly hovering in the 70s and we celebrated our hard work with Mexican food at a local restaurant. It was a beautiful day well-spent in the desert and ended up with one of the most colorfully painted desert skies I’d ever seen.
